CRP is a positive acute phase reactant present in blood that is expressed in the liver. It is used as a biomarker for cardiovascular and inflammatory disease in humans and dogs. It is a pentameric protein comprised of five identical ~ 25 kDa polypeptide chains. Studies at LDI have demonstrated that cow CRP levels increase several 100-fold in milk from animals with mastitis.
